Media Specialist – Cross Channel, Local

Job Overview:

You’ve seen it all and done it all…twice. You can build radio plans for Sioux City, Mason City, Dodge City, and any other city; negotiate the best TV rates Yuma, and execute OOH campaigns in Paducah. You can do it all as a one-person show and sometimes it’s just easier that way. You have an uncanny ability to take complex media data and make it easy for clients to understand. You build strong relationships and are able to present and sell ideas.

Primary Job Responsibilities:

  • Strategy, planning, and thought leadership:
    • Act as the subject matter expert for cross-channel media strategies including: TV, radio, print, OOH, etc., continually evolving our approach to best practices, staying on top of emerging trends and providing POVs.
    • Understand client goals and objectives and translate them into insight-lead actionable and measurable media strategies and tactical plans.
    • Analyze competitive landscape, consumer insight, historical performance and develop rational for media plan recommendations and strategic use of channels.
    • Write & present clear and succinct client-facing presentations of recommended media goals, objectives, strategies, tactics and implementation timelines.
  • Media management and execution:
    • Execute all aspects of the media campaign from beginning to end:
      • Managing publisher RFPs
      • Negotiate buys strategically to ensure savings and meet client objectives
      • Creating insertion orders and ensuring adherence to agency terms & conditions
      • Trafficking
      • Monitoring campaign deliveries and suggesting optimizations based on campaign KPI performance
      • Monitor budgets to ensure pacing to annual business goals
      • Monitoring client expenditures and working with various teams to resolve billing discrepancies
      • Ensure feedback is communicated to partners and vendors
    • Provide client insights-led reporting and analysis.
    • Accurately maintain client-approved budgets, track client billings
  • Client relationship management
    • Serve as primary day-to-day media contact:
      • Clearly defining program objectives, tactics, and KPIs
      • Developing and delivering client communication
      • Answering client questions, comments, and ad hoc requests.
    • Effectively manage client relationship and establish trust and credibility
    • Provide strategic direction to new/opportunistic clients
  • Internal relationship management:
    • Foster a culture of open communication and 360-degree feedback
    • Inspire yourself and others to reach your quarterly, annual, and long-term goals
    • Foster collaboration between teams to integrate messaging & creative campaigns into overall media campaigns
    • Collaborate within the agency to share best in class work and inspire upcoming briefs/plans.
    • Summarize and communicate status of all campaigns with appropriate internal contacts and client teams, including building reports.

Requirements & Qualifications:

  • Strong organizational skills demonstrated in the ability to multi-task and meet conflicting priorities as well as successfully manage the teams’ day-to-day tasks.
  • Experience in a client-facing environment. Great communication and presentation skills translating client challenges to campaign solutions.
  • Broad knowledge of the overall media landscape, consumer behavior and media consumption
  • Cross-channel understanding of the media plan ecosystem and lifecycle from strategy to reporting.
  • A data-driven approach, leveraging insights to develop strategy and define measurement.
  • Curious mindset with strong critical thinking skills needed to solve diverse business challenges
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a cross-functional environment (internally & externally)
  • 4 years local media planning experience – have owned components and managed both building and implementing media plan across two planning cycles.
  • Experience with local clients, retail, and using data to generate insights and rationalize plan strategy.
  • Must have experience in both strategic and functional knowledge (video, audio, OOH, print) and strategic planning experience across all media types & platforms
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (especially Outlook, PowerPoint and Excel) and building formulas, macros and V-lookups.
